Akshay Kumar's Sooryavanshi, Ranveer Singh's 83 to release in theatres on Diwali, Christmas respectively

Sooryavanshi and 83, two of the most highly-anticipated films, had their releases pushed back due to the nationwide coronavirus lockdown.

Now, PVR Cinemas has announced the new release dates. While the Akshay Kumar-led Sooryavanshi will hit cinemas on Diwali, 83's release is set for Christmas.

Here is the post

Reliance Entertainment Group CEO Shibashish Sarkar confirmed this development to Bollywood HungamaHe said the company hoped the situation would revert to normal by the festival season.

Hindustan Times writes there were speculations that Sooryavanshi and 83 might be out on OTT, but director Kabir Khan had said his sports drama has been made to be experienced on the big screen. "We are ready to wait for things to get normal and then release it in cinemas," he had said.

Sooryavanshi is the ambitious cop-crossover project that Rohit Shetty has been teasing ever since Ajay Devgn's Singham made an appearance in Simmba. In the closing scene of the Singh-starrer, Kumar also made a cameo in his Veer Sooryavanshi avatar, announcing he would be "taking charge in 2019". Kumar will feature as the head of Mumbai's Anti-terrorism squad, who is tasked with preventing the biggest attack on the city since 26/11.

Meanwhile, 83 will chronicle India's win under Kapil Dev's captaincy, when the men in blue defeated West Indies in the finals to clinch their first-ever World Cup trophy in 1983. It will track the coming-of-age of not just a cricketing team, but of a young nation in the eyes of the world.

On 29 June, around seven mid-sized and big films have already been announced for direct release on Disney+ Hotstar. These include Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb, Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj – The Pride Of India, Sushant Singh Rajput’s last film Dil Bechara, Mahesh Bhatt’s Sadak 2, Vidyut Jammwal’s Khuda Hafiz, Abhishek Bachchan’s The Big Bull and Kunal Kemmu’s Lootcase.
