30 Percent Cut In Remunerations In Tamil Industry?

After the Telugu film industry proposed a 20 percent pay cut to its actors and technicians who are earning more than Rs 5 lakh per film, it is the turn of Tamil film industry which imposed mandatory pay cut of 30 percent to its actors and technicians for the films that are already in the production and that are stuck in various phases of filmmaking. This is applicable to actors and technicians whose income is above Rs 10 lakh per film.

Since the film’s budgets have increased sharply due to delays owing to Covid-19 pandemic, Tamil Film Active Producers Association (TFAPA) president Bharati Raja on Monday asked the actors and technicians to cooperate with producers. He said satellite rights, OTT and theatrical rights of the films have been badly affected. Bharati Raja added that film producers are unable to pay back even the interest payment to the lenders. However, he said this pay cut is only applicable to films that are already in the production. He said this pay cut is not for new films that are yet to be signed.

Earlier, the Active Telugu Film Producers Guild imposed similar pay cut in Tollywood for the films that are in production as well as for the films that are going to be made soon. Meanwhile, Nadigar Sangam, the Tamil movie movie artistes association, is yet to respond on the request of Tamil Film Active Producers Association.
